The frozen lake Turracher See offers manifold possibilities in winter: it connects the resort’s two ski areas and serves as meeting place for skaters and cross-country skiers alike. A total network of 15 kilometers/9.3 miles of cross-country skiing tracks with the flat “Turracher See track“ especially suited to beginners or some warm-up rounds for the more experienced skiers. The tracks are groomed for both classic and skating style skiing. On Tuesdays and Thursdays night tobogganing takes place at the Sonnenalm lift and the picturesque landscape of the Nockberge national park can be explored during pleasant snow-show hikes offered twice a week. The idyllic winter landscape is best discovered on winter walking paths winding through extensive pine wood forests. Experienced mountaineers appreciate the region’s several options for varied ski tours.

Turrach Soup Festival launching December 1, 2012
A culinary festival with delicious creations such as hay, potato-mushroom, chestnut or creamy garlic soup in the bread bowl served on Saturday 1st and Sunday 16th 2011 marked the official ski opening kick-off at Turracherhöhe resort. Local caterers will have their favorite soups on the menu during the month of December and some of them have even promised to surprise their guests with new creations.

When the days are getting longer and the sun is warming up by the hour, caterers at  Turracher Höhe become particularly creative and invite visitors to join in a tasty event sure to please the guests’ palates, whether served as delightful treat at the sun terrace, apres-ski tasting or evening gourmet menu.
The program starts on the weekend Friday – Sunday March 15 to17, 2017 with a culinary safari through the entire skiing area, where local caterers and hut hosts present their spring creations.

Guided snowshoe hikes
Each Tuesday and Wednesday guided snowshoe hikes are offered, taking participants through the wild romantic Turracher Höhe winter landscape. On Wednesdays the walks are guided by a National Park ranger who can provide interpretive information on how plants and animals survive winter. The Tuesday tours as well as the quaint full-moon snowshoe hikes are organised by the Outdoor Turrach Pro ski school.

The resort in the Nockberge mountains promises a wide range of nature experiences full of action, from contemplative to sporty, rich in highlights and sensations for the palate such as a mountain farmer’s ice-cream, togoggan fun with the Nocky Flitzer, ski slope golf, tractor pulling & caber tossing, attractive excursions, hikes and mountain bike tours, a crystal & mineral museum of international standing etc.

Daily alpine nature experiences for everyone from contemplative to sporty-active with the summer program “Mehr Berg-Erleben“ (MoreMountainExperience) organized by the tourism association Turracher Höhe. The mountain-lake paradise Turracher Höhe offers the ideal setting for individual nature enjoyment and discoveries. The location at the heart of the Nockberge Mountains at the foot of the national park at 1,763 m/5,784 ft altitude is sure to leave lasting impressions on visitors returning from a leisurely hike around the three lakes or a barefoot walk. There are a number of challenging mountainbike tours on offer including guided tours such as the “Get to know the Turracher Höhe by mountain bike“ tour. The “Swiss stone pine walk“ introduces guests to the world of the Swiss stone pine, a rare conifer species characterizing this region. During a break on the walk, visitors will have the chance to make a scented bag; one of the many ways to get a glimpse behind the scenes of nature. Various hikes of medium difficulty up to Schoberriegel or Kornock, the two local mountains or more extensive tours through the gentle mountain landscape with summits reaching up to 2,400 m/7,874 ft promise wonderful nature enjoyment in the Nockberge mountains. Children are invited to join an expedition once a week, a half day nature discovery tour especially for kids.

2. The Barbara trail: a new themed hiking path at Turracher Höhe

The Barbara trail is a scenic path following the traces left by the historic Turrach mining tradition, providing interpretive information on the particularities of Turrach’s splendid mountain world.
An easy 2-hour walk along the Barbara trail showing visitors of Turracher Höhe the rich diversity and characteristics of the high plateau illustrated by a number of show boards on the topics of mountain trees, pastures, meadows, mining work, view, power or danger.

3. "Nocky’s AlmZeit" - games & adventures at 2,000 m/5,662 ft above sea level

Nocky’s AlmZeit, located close to the Panoramabahn top station and the Nocky Flitzer Alpine roller coaster, is the new fun-packed adventure playground for adults and children open at Turracher Höhe.
The time oasis Nocky’s Almzeit invites adults and children to experience happy moments with “Nocky“ the mountain bunny accompanying visitors on their expedition along the AlmZeit circular trail featuring seven exciting game stations specially designed for Turracher Höhe.

Since its opening in 2000, the Alpin+Art+Gallery – treasury of nature museum of the Kranzelbinder family features special exhibitions devoted to a particular topic. This year it is the Amethyst, queen of precious stones.

Mountain walks & summit tours to the national park summits

The mountain village Turracher Höhe, located on a high plateau 1,763m/5,784 ft above sea level presents a magnificent pageant with the scenic interplay of the high peaks and the three mountain lakes, offering a variety of options for outdoor activities:

• contemplative mountain walks, such as the 3-lakes trail;
• easy summit walks, thanks to the Kornockbahn cable car from the top station from which you reach the 2,334 m/7,663 ft high Rinsennock within half an hour;
• short tours to various summits, e.g. via the Schoberriegel (2,208 m/7,244 ft) and the Gruft (2,232 m/7,323 ft) to the Obere Vastlhütte hut and past the Karlhütte hut and lake Grünsee back to Turracher Höhe;
• more demanding summit tours in the national park such as the wonderful tour from Turracher Höhe to the Königstuhl (2,336 m/7,664 ft), one of the best known “Nock’n”.
